Exhibition Text: With being inspired by Stefan Sagmeister I was able to conduct a piece that I believe that my artwork Circle of Society is a piece that meets my standards. Circle of Society is a photograph that has a medal in the foreground and vehicles moving in the background, separated by a fence. The medal was given to me during my eighth grade graduation which is why it is very special to me. It represents not only my completion but my accomplishments. The picture is in first person and the person is on the other side of the fence, where the cars aren't. The people in the cars cannot obviously see them and if they look they can only glance because they need their eyes on the road, focusing on what's ahead. This piece visualizes the barrier and weighs heavily on how different your life becomes when you don't truly believe in yourself and your past accomplishments. You end up blending in with society. My definition of community is a group of people that have something in common; in this case the feeling of giving up on your dreams. |
